Punica granatum - Pomegranate - 46 cm

Punica granatum (pomegranate) bonsai, a deciduous fruit-bearing species, is an ornamental variety particularly prized in the world of bonsai for its characteristic sinuous trunk, which combines elegance, hardiness and spectacular seasonal change. The leaves, small and lanceolate, appear in spring as highly decorative young reddish-bronze shoots; they turn a bright green during the growing season, before taking on warm golden-yellow hues in autumn before falling. During winter, the plant becomes completely bare, highlighting the elegant structure of the trunk and branches. Between late spring and summer, it may produce elegant red-orange flowers with a typical bell-shaped form, which are highly ornamental and decorative. After flowering, small fruits resembling miniature pomegranates may appear; these ripen towards the end of summer or the start of autumn, adding further charm to the plant. The trunk has a rough, deeply textured bark, a distinctive sign of age and character. When grown in an unglazed stoneware pot shaped like a lotus flower, it highlights the rustic charm of the trunk and creates an elegant contrast with the green foliage.
