Kokufu Bonsai-Ten is Japan's most prestigious bonsai exhibition, organized by the Nippon Bonsai Association since 1934 and known throughout the world for over 80 years. Created with the aim of improving, spreading, and developing the art of bonsai and traditional Japanese culture, Kokufu is an exceptional showcase that brings international fame to the person who is awarded the Kokufu Prize. The exhibition takes place every year in February: during this period, most bonsai trees are bare of leaves, flowers, and fruit, allowing their characteristics to be fully appreciated. Following each edition of Kokufu, a catalog is published containing photographs of the more than 200 bonsai trees on display.
