Suiseki
Suiseki literally means “stone in water” and derives from the ancient custom of displaying landscape stones on trays filled with water. Currently, suiseki are displayed on a custom-made wooden base or on a suiban - a low tray - filled with sand. Compositions are often created by placing bonsai trees alongside suiseki, small stones shaped by nature and admired for their ability to evoke a natural setting. The most prized suiseki are those that stimulate the imagination of the observer, bringing to mind distant mountains, waterfalls, islands, and much more. Each suiseki is unique.
