Bonsai of Rhus succedanea, deciduous outdoor species, is known as the Wax Tree or Japanese Wax Tree, prized in the bonsai world for its light habit, elegant growth and extraordinary seasonal colouration. Its compound, slender and harmonious leaves are bright green in spring and summer, accompanied by young branches with delicate reddish tones that give the foliage brightness and movement. In autumn, the foliage transforms into a spectacle of warm colours, changing from golden yellow to orange to deep red, before the leaves fall in winter. In late spring or early summer it may produce small, pale flowers in light ornamental panicles. On mature specimens, the flowering may be followed by small round fruits that ripen to darker shades later in the season. Cultivated in a forest style (yose-ue), in which several trunks of different sizes and heights are arranged in a seemingly random manner but designed to create depth and perspective. The slender and slightly sinuous trunks contribute to a natural and dynamic effect, while the asymmetrical arrangement of the trees faithfully recalls the irregularity of a forest environment. The round blue glazed stoneware pot, enhances the light green colour of the foliage in the spring period and the red colour in the autumn period.
