This bonsai of Pinus thunbergii (black pine) is a robust evergreen conifer that is highly valued in the bonsai art for its wrinkled bark and vigorous needles. The foliage is dense and consists of double, long, thin, bright green needles. It has a trunk with mature, wrinkled bark, which cracks as it ages becoming more interesting as it ages. Grown in a rectangular blue glazed stoneware pot with rounded corners, enhances the color contrast and enhances the natural aesthetics.
Grow bonsai outdoors all year round in a well-ventilated area, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Repot young specimens about every 3 years, and more mature ones every 5-7 years. The best time to do this is between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, when the buds are swollen but the needles have not yet opened.
