Pinus pentaphylla - Pine five needles - 40 cm

Bonsai of Pinus Pentaphylla (five-needle pine), an evergreen conifer, highly prized in the bonsai art for its elegant bearing and durability. It has needles grouped in clumps of five, blue-green in color. In spring the new shoots are a bright light green, while in colder seasons the foliage takes on cooler, silvery shades, further increasing the bonsai's appeal. In spring it develops small yellowish male cones and female cones which, over time, develop into small ornamental cones. As it ages, the bark of this species cracks and becomes more and more interesting. Cultivated in a multitrunk style (Kabudachi), in which all the trunks grow from the same base, sharing a single root system that effectively makes them a single tree. Grown in a half-moon unglazed stoneware pot, it enhances the rusticity of the trunk and contrasts with the bright green of the needles.
