DESCRIPTION

A Pinus thunbergii (black pine) bonsai, an evergreen conifer that is robust and highly prized in the art of bonsai for its rough bark and vigorous needles. The foliage is dense and consists of long, slender, double needles of a bright green colour. It features trunks with mature, rough bark, which cracks as it ages, becoming increasingly interesting. The style is Kabudachi (stump style). It is grown in an irregularly shaped, unglazed stoneware pot.

Watering

Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Repotting

Repot young specimens about every 3 years, and more mature ones every 5-7 years. The best time to do this is between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, when the buds are swollen but the needles have not yet opened.
