Metasequoia bonsai, a deciduous conifer, highly prized in the art of bonsai for its elegant and natural form. It features soft needles arranged oppositely along the branches. In spring, the foliage is a bright light green; it turns a deep green during the summer and transforms into warm shades of yellow-bronze and copper in autumn before falling, further enhancing the bonsai’s charm. As it ages, the bark becomes fibrous and flakes off in vertical strips, becoming increasingly interesting. The ‘forest’ style (yose-ue) features multiple trunks that create the effect of a small miniature forest, giving the plant a natural and harmonious appearance. This style recreates a balanced and evocative woodland setting. Cultivated in an oval green-glazed stoneware pot, it enhances the plant by echoing the colours of the foliage and creating an elegant visual composition.
