Ceratonia siliqua – Carob tree – 77 cm

Ceratonia siliqua (carob) bonsai, an evergreen outdoor species typical of the Mediterranean scrub, prized for its extraordinary hardiness, longevity and strong character. The plant retains a lush and compact appearance throughout the seasons. It has dark green, glossy leaves on the upper surface and lighter green ones on the underside. In spring, the new shoots display delicate bronze hues before maturing. During the summer and autumn months, it may produce small, clustered inflorescences of a yellowish-green and reddish colour. If pollinated, the flowers develop into the characteristic fruits (carob pods): large pods which, once fully ripe the following summer, take on a dark brown to blackish hue. It has a sturdy trunk, well-proportioned at the base, which branches harmoniously into a dense, symmetrical crown. It is grown in a round, unglazed stoneware pot, featuring a decorative central band glazed in ochre, which highlights the traditional Japanese designs engraved on the pot.
