Ficus carica – Fig tree – 50 cm

The Ficus carica bonsai, a deciduous fruit-bearing tree, is a plant with a strong Mediterranean charm, prized for its sinuous trunk and its ability to produce real figs. The foliage features large, lobed leaves, one of the species’ distinctive characteristics: in spring they are a bright light green; during the summer they take on deeper shades; in autumn they turn yellowish-green; and they shed their leaves in winter. The fig’s flowers are unusual and not very visible, as they develop inside the fruit itself, known as a syconium. The real ornamental attraction is therefore the fruit, the figs, which start out green and turn darker or purple as they ripen. They generally appear from late spring through to summer and ripen between summer and early autumn. Characterized by a dynamic yet harmonious trunk that lends balance, vitality and naturalness to the entire bonsai. Grown in a cream cloud glazed stoneware pot, it creates an elegant contrast with the foliage and the light tones of the bark.
