A shohin bonsai of Cotoneaster horizontalis (horizontal cotoneaster), a deciduous fruit-bearing plant, much loved in the world of bonsai for its compact growth, dense branching and small, oval, glossy, deep green leaves. In spring, it is prized for its small, pinkish-white flowers. In autumn and winter, the foliage turns red before shedding, and the plant is adorned with numerous red, decorative and long-lasting berries, which enhance its seasonal charm and make it perfect as an ornamental fruit-bearing bonsai. The semi-cascading style (Han-Kengai), with exposed roots, features branches that extend downwards in a fluid and harmonious manner, creating a beautiful sense of movement. When grown in a round, blue-glazed stoneware pot, it creates a lovely contrast with the bright green of the leaves and the vibrant red of the berries.
