Ilex serrata – Holly – 38 cm
An Ilex serrata bonsai, characterised by a height (excluding the pot) of 31 cm, a trunk diameter of 4 cm and a nebari of 6 cm. The plant is grown in a hexagonal glazed stoneware pot measuring 19 x 19 x H7 cm.
The Ilex serrata (holly) bonsai, a deciduous fruit-bearing species, is an ornamental variety prized for its pinkish-white spring blossoms and its red or orange berries, which ripen in autumn and remain on the plant for much of the winter. The foliage, consisting of small, serrated leaves, sheds in winter, giving way to the red berries. It is styled with exposed roots (Neagari), where the roots emerge from the soil, blending with the sinuous curve of the trunk to create a dynamic and natural composition. Grown in a hexagonal, blue-glazed stoneware pot, it creates a refined contrast with the colour of the foliage, enhancing the composition with elegance.
Place your Ilex serrata bonsai outdoors all year round, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water thoroughly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Apply fertilizer regularly from spring to fall, avoiding the hottest months of July/August. We recommend using slow-release organic fertilizer, alternating with liquid fertilizer.

Up to 10 years of age, it is advisable to repot every year in early spring, as the roots are fine and very vigorous, capable of saturating the pot in a single growing season. After this period, repotting can be done every other year in March or April, or between late September and early October.
