The Ficus Retusa is the indoor bonsai par excellence and adapts to almost all environmental conditions, perfectly tolerating the dry air of our homes. There are hundreds of varieties of ficus, mostly of tropical origin. Some, such as Ficus formosanum, also bear fruit when cultivated as bonsai; all of them, if properly grown, display beautiful dark green foliage. Mature specimens are characterized by the presence of aerial roots which, with their vertical and sinuous growth, give the tree a particularly exotic, imposing, and wild appearance. Especially valuable and appreciated for their small leaves are the ficus trees originating from the island of Formosa. A good sign, indicating proper cultivation, is the dark green color of the leaves.
