Of Chinese origin, this plant belonging to the ulmaceae family has a smooth trunk with greyish-brown or dark-brown bark and a generous foliage consisting of many small, dense leaves with a simple shape: oval, toothed, with a short, but very developed petiole. It is evergreen, hardy and easy to grow. In addition, it lends itself very well to the creation of characteristic cloud-shaped stakes that give it a particularly striking appearance. Very popular for their small leaves are the Zelkova nire from the island of Formosa. In the wild, it grows with rounded, broad and slightly lance-shaped fronds.
