A Japanese garden plant (Niwaki) of Pinus thunbergii kotobuki (black pine), a hardy evergreen conifer much prized in the art of bonsai for its rough bark and vigorous needles. The foliage is dense and consists of long, slender, dark green double needles. It features a trunk with mature, rough bark, which cracks as it ages, becoming increasingly interesting. Styled in the informal upright (Moyogi) style, it features a sinuous trunk with natural movement, which winds upwards supporting branches of dense, compact needles arranged asymmetrically to form a harmonious silhouette. Grown in a round, unglazed stoneware pot.
