DESCRIPTION

Bonsai are living organisms and each one is different from the others, so the plant you receive will be similar to, but not identical to, the one shown in the photograph. The height may vary as the plant grows.
The Acer buergerianum (maple) bonsai is a deciduous species, prized for its distinctive foliage which changes colour as the seasons progress. During spring and summer, its leaves are a vibrant green, whilst in autumn they take on shades of red and orange, until the bonsai sheds its leaves in winter. It is a plant currently undergoing growth and shaping, with a light and slender structure, grown in a square black plastic pot.

How to keep your bonsai healthy

Location

Protect the foliage from the strongest summer sun; expose the bonsai to the sun in autumn to intensify the foliage's color. In winter, it's best to protect the root system from frost, especially when grown in very shallow pots or with exposed roots.

Always observe the wet-dry cycle: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water thoroughly. Then wait until the soil dries out before watering again.

Repot young maples every two years, and every three to four years for mature maples. Repot in spring when the buds begin to swell, but before the leaves appear. The ideal compost is 60% akadama, 30% prepared soil and 10% pozzolan.
