Acer buergerianum - Maple - 32 cm
Maple bonsai characterised by its height without pot of 26.5 cm, trunk size of 1.5 cm and nebari of 9 cm. The plant is grown in an oval blue-glazed stoneware pot whose dimensions are 25x14.5xH5.5 cm.
Bonsai shohin of Acer buergerianum (maple), a deciduous species, is prized for its distinctive foliage that offers a spectacular variation of colours as the seasons progress. During spring and summer its leaves are bright green, while in autumn they turn shades of red and orange, until the bonsai tree sheds its leaves in winter. It has a stump style (Kabudachi) in which all trunks grow from the same base with a single root system, making it to all intents and purposes a single tree. Grown in an oval blue enamelled stoneware pot, it creates an elegant contrast to the foliage.
Protect the foliage from the strongest summer sun; expose the bonsai to the sun in autumn to intensify the foliage's color. In winter, it's best to protect the root system from frost, especially when grown in very shallow pots or with exposed roots.
Always observe the wet-dry cycle: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water thoroughly. Then wait until the soil dries out before watering again.
