Taxodium bonsai, a deciduous conifer species, prized for its vigorous growth, its bark which becomes deeply fissured over time, and its light foliage, which lends great movement and harmony. Unlike most conifers, Taxodium sheds its foliage completely during the winter. In spring, it produces light green foliage, which becomes more intense and lush during the summer. In autumn, the leaves take on shades of bronze, copper and orange-cinnamon. Once the leaves have fallen, the trunk and branches take on even more character, highlighting the structure of the bonsai. The soft, slender leaves, arranged regularly along the twigs, create a feathery and delicate effect. In spring, it produces small flowers: the male flowers are clustered in slender, pendulous inflorescences, whilst the female flowers are spherical and inconspicuous. Their pollination results in the development of characteristic, rounded woody cones, which mature between late summer and autumn, turning a greyish-brown colour before releasing their seeds. Styled in the ‘Shakan’ (leaning) style, in which the trunk grows at a marked angle, evoking the image of a tree shaped by the wind, the search for light or the elements. The round black plastic pot enhances the plant, offering practicality, lightness and durability for optimal cultivation.
