Bonsai of Pinus Pentaphylla (five-needle pine), an evergreen conifer, highly prized in the bonsai art for its elegant bearing and durability. It has needles grouped in clumps of five, blue-green in color. In spring the new shoots are a bright light green, while in colder seasons the foliage takes on cooler, silvery shades, further increasing the bonsai's appeal. In spring it develops small yellowish male cones and female cones which, over time, develop into small ornamental cones. As it ages, the bark of this species cracks and becomes more and more interesting. Cultivated in the literati style (Bunjin), it has a slender, sinuous trunk, modelled with soft, natural movements, reminiscent of trees grown in extreme environments, shaped by wind and weather. The vegetation, gathered in an essential, light foliage, emphasises the sense of balance, lightness and harmony typical of the Bunjin style. Grown in an irregular rock pot, it enhances the bonsai by transforming the arrangement into an authentic miniature natural landscape and creating a contrast with the bright green of the needles.
Grow bonsai outdoors all year round in a well-ventilated area, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Repot young specimens about every 3 years, and more mature ones every 5-7 years. The best time to do this is between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, when the buds are swollen but the needles have not yet opened.
