DESCRIPTION

Specimen bonsai of Pinus pentaphylla (five-needle pine), an evergreen conifer highly prized in the art of bonsai for its elegant form and hardiness. Its needles grow in clusters of five and are bluish-green in colour. In spring, the new shoots appear in a bright light green, whilst in the colder seasons the foliage takes on cooler, silvery hues, further enhancing the bonsai’s charm. In spring, it develops small, yellowish male cones and female cones which, over time, transform into small ornamental pinecones. As it ages, the bark of this species cracks, becoming increasingly interesting. This fine specimen has a balanced structure, with a compact, tiered and well-defined crown, which gives the plant a mature and harmonious appearance. It also boasts an impressive nebari with well-developed exposed roots branching out above the soil, adding both aesthetic value and strength, whilst symbolising the tree’s stability, anchorage and maturity. It is grown in a round, unglazed stoneware pot, which enhances the rustic character of the trunk and creates a contrast with the bright green of the needles.

Watering

Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Repotting

Repot young specimens about every 3 years, and more mature ones every 5-7 years. The best time to do this is between the end of winter and the beginning of spring, when the buds are swollen but the needles have not yet opened.
