This bonsai of Cornus (dogwood) is a deciduous flowering and fruiting tree, prized for its seasonal beauty and elegant structure. Its leaves turn from light green to deep, bright green in spring; they turn red, orange and yellow in autumn, creating a spectacular play of colours; then shed its leaves in winter. Cornus is known for its small yellow-green flowers in late spring or early summer and the production of small fruits (drupes) ranging in colour from pink to red, with yellow-orange flesh inside. Grown in a slanting style (Shakan), it has a trunk that bends elegantly to one side, giving it movement and naturalness. The oval turquoise glazed stoneware pot contrasts with the shades of the foliage.
