This shohin bonsai of Cotoneaster horizontalis (cottonberry) belongs to the deciduous fruit variety, loved in the world of bonsai for its compact growth, dense branching and small, oval, glossy, deep green leaves. In spring, it is appreciated for its small white-pink flowers. In autumn and winter, the foliage turns red and the plant is adorned with numerous decorative and long-lasting red berries, which enhance its seasonal charm and make it perfect as an ornamental fruit bonsai. The semi-cascade style (Han-Kengai) is characterized by branches that extend downward in a fluid and harmonious manner, creating a beautiful effect of movement. The bonsai grown in a round blue glazed stoneware pot, creates a beautiful contrast with the bright green of the leaves and the bright red of the berries.
Grow bonsai outdoors all year round, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water thoroughly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.
