DESCRIPTION

Diospyros kaki (persimmon) deciduous and fruiting bonsai trees, much prized for their distinctive bright orange, ornamental and decorative autumn fruits, which stand out to great effect on bare branches. It produces a delicate cream-coloured blossom in spring, followed in summer by large, glossy, slightly leathery, deep green leaves that turn a beautiful yellow-orange shade in autumn before dropping. It is generally a self-fertile plant, but fruiting may vary depending on growing conditions and pollination. The bare winter structure highlights the elegant, fine, well-distributed branching. It has a sinuous, well-proportioned trunk with harmonious movement and mature bark that conveys solidity and naturalness. The nebari is stable and well set, giving balance and scenic presence to the whole. Cultivated in a cream-coloured glazed stoneware pot, its rounded shape with slight vertical grooves and raised feet, with its soft and elegant lines, enhances the plant's setting and emphasises its refined character, creating a harmonious whole with great aesthetic impact.

Location

Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water thoroughly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Fertilize from spring to fall, avoiding the hottest months of July/August; it is best to fertilize at the end of flowering and after pruning, using an organic, liquid or solid fertilizer.

Repotting

The best time to transplant Diospyros kaki is in spring, before vegetative growth begins. Transplant every 2-3 years; once the growth phase is over, due to rapid root development, it is best to do this every year.
