Bonsai of Callicarpa japonica (callicarpa) belonging to the deciduous fruiting variety, is known for its small purple fruits that decorate the branches in autumn, creating a unique ornamental effect. In late spring it produces lilac-pink, four-petalled flowers arranged in clusters at the axils of the leaves. The foliage with light green leaves turns orange-yellow in autumn and sheds its leaves in winter. The rectangular blue glazed stoneware pot, creates a refined contrast with the color of the foliage, elegantly enhancing the composition.
Grow bonsai outdoors all year round, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months. Exposure to the sun in autumn promotes berry coloring.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.
