Bonsai of Punica granatum (pomegranate), a deciduous fruit tree, is an ornamental variety that is particularly popular in the bonsai world for its characteristic sinuous trunk, combining elegance, rusticity and seasonal spectacularity. The leaves, small and lanceolate, appear in spring with very decorative red-bronze young shoots, bright green during the growing season, then take on warm golden-yellow tones in autumn before dropping. During the winter, the plant sheds its leaves completely, emphasising the elegant structure of the trunk and branches. Between late spring and summer it can produce elegant orange-red flowers with a typical bell shape, which are very ornamental and decorative. After flowering, small fruits similar to miniature pomegranates may appear, which ripen in late summer or early autumn, adding further charm to the plant. The trunks have a wrinkled, richly moving bark, a distinctive sign of age and character. Cultivated in an oval blue glazed stoneware pot, creates a refined contrast with the color of the foliage, elegantly enhancing the composition.
