Ilex serrata subtilis – Holly – 30 cm
An Ilex serrata subtilis bonsai, characterised by a height (excluding the pot) of 22 cm and a trunk diameter of 1.5 cm. The plant is grown in a square glazed stoneware pot measuring 8.5 × 8.5 × H8 cm.
This Ilex serrata subtilis (holly) bonsai, belonging to the deciduous, fruit-bearing variety, is an ornamental variety prized for its pinkish-white spring blossoms and its red or orange berries, which ripen in autumn and remain on the plant for most of the winter. The foliage, consisting of small, serrated leaves, sheds in winter, making way for the red berries. It is grown in a square, yellow-glazed stoneware pot, which highlights the beauty of the bonsai, creating a pleasing contrast with the green of the leaves and the red of the berries.
Place your Ilex serrata bonsai outdoors all year round, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water thoroughly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Apply fertilizer regularly from spring to fall, avoiding the hottest months of July/August. We recommend using slow-release organic fertilizer, alternating with liquid fertilizer.

Up to 10 years of age, it is advisable to repot every year in early spring, as the roots are fine and very vigorous, capable of saturating the pot in a single growing season. After this period, repotting can be done every other year in March or April, or between late September and early October.
