Juniperus Rigida - Juniper - 50 cm
Unique juniper specimen characterised by a height without pot of 37 cm, trunk size of 11 cm and nebari of 19 cm. The plant is grown in a rectangular unglazed stoneware pot whose dimensions are 34x25.5xH13 cm.
In the art of bonsai, junipers are among the most widely used plants: in Japan and China, Juniperus rigida and Juniperus chinensis even constitute groups in their own right in exhibitions and collections, both because of the large number of specimens on display and their particular beauty. Worth noting about this specimen is the studied tapering of its foliage and the particular complexity of its trunk, which expresses strength and elegance thanks to the processing of dry wood (shari) that emphasises the barkless areas of the plant. The dry bark usually develops from the base of the trunk and gradually thins out towards the top and is processed with jin liquid to bring out the white color it takes on thanks to the action of the sun's rays, giving an interesting scenic appearance. The light-coloured veins stand out even more due to the color of the unglazed stoneware pot.
