Bonsai shohin of Elaeagnus (oleaster), an evergreen fruit tree, is valued for its rusticity, vigor and green leaves with silver highlights. It flowers in autumn (September-November) with small, fragrant white flowers. In spring (March-May) it produces decorative red oval berries, which add a touch of colour and natural elegance to the foliage. It features a sturdy, mature trunk with a clearly visible nebari at the base that conveys stability. The trunk’s form is natural and fluid, complemented by well-structured bark featuring a rough texture and gray-brown tones. Cultivated in an oval turquoise glazed stoneware pot, it adds brightness, enhancing the foliage’s color and completing the overall aesthetic with discretion and refinement.
Grow the bonsai outdoors all year round, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.
