DESCRIPTION

A Chamaecyparis obtusa (false cypress) bonsai, an evergreen conifer, prized for its slow growth, hardiness and the sculptural beauty of its dense, orderly branches. In spring, its leaves are a bright light green, turning a deep green in summer and remaining dark green throughout autumn and winter. Cultivated in the forest-style (yose-ue), in which several trunks of varying sizes and heights are arranged in a seemingly random yet carefully studied manner to create depth and perspective. The slender, slightly sinuous trunks contribute to a natural and dynamic effect, whilst the asymmetrical arrangement of the trees faithfully evokes the irregularity of a woodland setting. An oval, unglazed stoneware pot, with natural, textured tones that evoke the elements of earth and rock, enhancing the authenticity of the composition and lending the bonsai a majestic and refined appearance.
