Bonsai of Rhododendron indicum Hi no maru (azalea), a flowering evergreen, is distinguished by its distinctive coloured flowers. It is prized for its spring flowering characterized by red flowers with pale white or pink edges, which create an elegant and lively contrast to the green leaves. The leaves are small, oval and elongated, bright green during the growing season. Being an evergreen, it retains its foliage all year round; in the colder months it can take on darker shades, while still maintaining a decorative appearance. Cultivated in a double trunk style (Sokan), it has two trunks that branch out parallel from the same nebari, creating a dynamic and well-balanced look. Cultivated in a round blue plastic pot, creates a refined contrast with the colour of the vegetation, enhancing the composition with elegance.
Grow bonsai outdoors all year round, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months. Azaleas also benefit from a well-ventilated position.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.
