Rhododendron indicum 'Hi no maru' - Azalea - 42 cm
Azalea bonsai measuring 30.5 cm in height without the pot, with trunks 1–1.5 cm in diameter and a nebari of 5 cm. The plant is grown in a round plastic pot measuring Ø29 x H11.5 cm.
The Rhododendron indicum Hi no maru (azalea) bonsai, an evergreen flowering plant, is distinguished by its distinctive, colourful flowers. It is prized for its spring flowering, characterised by red flowers with pale white/pink edges, which create an elegant and vibrant contrast with the green of the leaves. The leaves are small, oval and elongated, bright green during the growing season. As an evergreen, it retains its foliage all year round; in the colder months, the leaves may take on darker shades, yet still retain their decorative appearance. It features a stump-style (Kabudachi) form, in which all the trunks grow from the same base with a single root system, effectively making them a single tree. Grown in a round brown plastic pot, it creates a refined contrast with the colour of the foliage, enhancing the composition with elegance.
Grow bonsai outdoors all year round, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months. Azaleas also benefit from a well-ventilated position.
Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.

Fertilize from spring to fall, avoiding the hottest months of July/August; it is best to fertilize at the end of flowering and after pruning, using an organic, liquid, or solid fertilizer.

The best time for transplanting is immediately after flowering. Repot young specimens every 2 years, and more mature ones every 3 or 4 years.
