This shohin bonsai of Callicarpa japonica (japanese beautyberry) belonging to the deciduous fruit variety, is known for its small purple fruits that decorate the branches in autumn, creating a unique ornamental effect. In late spring it produces lilac-pink, four-petalled, flowers arranged in clusters at the axils of the leaves. The foliage turns orange-yellow in autumn and sheds its leaves in winter. Grown in an exposed root style (Neagari) it accentuates the stability and robustness of the bonsai, while the trunk develops with sinuous upward curves, creating a natural and balanced form. It is grown in a round blue enamelled stoneware pot that lends elegance.

Grow bonsai outdoors all year round, taking care to place it in a sheltered spot during the colder months and in partial shade during the warmer months. Exposure to the sun in autumn promotes berry coloring.

Always respect the dry and wet cycles: whenever the soil feels dry to the touch, water abundantly. Then wait for the soil to dry before watering again in the same way.
